The Society for Mathematical Psychology promotes the advancement and communication of research in mathematical psychology and related disciplines. Mathematical psychology is broadly defined to include work of a theoretical character that uses mathematical methods, formal logic, or computer simulation. The Society journal is the Journal of Mathematical Psychology.

While cognitive engineering and cognitive research has been playing a large role in the COSIT research community so far, people have focused primarily on abstract information formalisms, on basic research in spatial cognition, or on the design of particular kinds of user interfaces. The CESIP 2015 workshop will focus on the manner in which current insights and models about human spatial cognitive processes can help in the principled design of spatial information technology.
